WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO LEARN SPANISH?

  • Spanish is the second most spoken language globally, essential for effective communication with the large Hispanic population in the U.S. and significant for trade with Latin America.
  • Learning Spanish enhances job prospects, allows appreciation of literature and films, and fosters connections with English Language Learners.
  • It also enriches travel experiences in Spanish-speaking countries and helps maintain cognitive health as we age by keeping the brain active.

SPANISH CLASSES

GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION

  • The Spanish classes offered by the Montebello Unified School District (MUSD) fulfill the A-G Graduation Requirements and are designed for both Spanish speakers and non-speakers.
  • The courses aim to achieve fluency and proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking Spanish. Instruction involves three modes of communication: Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational.
  • The curriculum covers grammar, punctuation, literature, and cultural materials appropriate for each grade level.
  •  It aligns with the 2019 World Languages Standards for California Public Schools, K-12th,  focusing on Communication, Cultures, and Connections.
  • The ultimate goal is to prepare students for advanced Spanish learning and extend their understanding of language and culture beyond the classroom.
